A thank you to those who attended our Open Weekend to mark the 80th Anniversary of VE Day

Well what a hugely successful weekend we had celebrating the eightieth anniversary of VE Day. The weekend of the 3rd and 4th May 2025 saw in the region of 1500 visitors attending the site. Entry was once again FREE but we are tremendously grateful to those who generously gave donations and made full use of the NAAFI cafe facilities. Demand for the cafe was so overwhelming in fact that the volunteers helping out in there barely got a chance to draw breath over the entire weekend. It was gratifying to hear and read the positive feedback from visitors, many of whom attended last year’s D Day weekend and were impressed with the further progress made with the site since then and with the enhanced exhibitions provided.

Our thanks also go out to No 1 Company Lincolnshire Army Cadet Force and 119 Squadron Air Training Corps from Scunthorpe whose cadet bands entertained everybody over the weekend, to the wonderful Kelly Waldie who swept everybody along with her repetoire of wartime songs, to the re-enactors and military vehicle enthusiasts who populated the site and created a real period feel to the weekend, to the exhibitors who came along and especially to the NLAHC volunteers who planned and manned the entire weekend to create an enjoyable experience for all.

We are only sorry that the BBMF fly past had to be cancelled on both days. We were advised on the Saturday morning that cross winds at their base at Coningsby had made it too risky to try and take off. Disappointing we know but given the almost irreplaceable nature of these aircraft, certainly understandable.
